Collaborative Tangible Interface

A pysical architectural model is augmented by virtual objects such as the visualization of simulation results. At the same time it acts as a tangible interface for a remote virtual environment showing the same place but pure virtual and at scale 1:1

Magnetic gear

Magnetic gear

A magnetic gear is augmented by magnetic field lines. If you turn the gear, the magnetic field lines adapt and show the correct state.

Water Turbine

Water Turbine

Water flow is simulated interactively and displayed on top of a Kaplan turbine. The angle of the rotor blades is picked up by a marker on one of the blades. With this value a parametric mesh generator creates the surface and computational mesh of the water turbine and Fenfloss, a fast Navier-Stokes solver computes the water flow. After a couple of seconds the results of this simulation are displayed on the real turbine.

Wind tunnel experiment

Wind tunnel experiment

The picture on the right shows a model of a Mercedes Benz S-Class in the wind tunnel at the FKFS at University of Stuttgart. It is augmented by streamlines, animated particles and a cutting surface showing a pressure disitribution. The physical smoke wand is equiped with a marker. Thus the virtual smoke traces (the stream lines) can be computed exactly from the same position as the pysical ones and thus can be easily compared to each other.

Landscape

Landscape Architecture

In this outdoor scene, the parking lot of the former HLRS building is beautified by an augmentation of an asian garden

Air conditioning

Air conditioning

A comfortable air conditioning depends on the power of the climate control unit, the connected air guiding system and the position of the ducts. Computed and testing data of the airflow comming out of the ducts is analyzed in order to optimize the comfort for the passengers. With AR visualization it can be examined from the passengers point of view if the air has a suitable velocity, pressure and temperature.
