Philosophy of computer simulations or philosophy of science (focused on computer simulations)?

Dr. phil. Juan M. Durán / HLRS

Philosophical studies in computer simulations are divided between those that take simulations as genuine units of study, and those that downplay simulations to more familiar philosophies. The former gives content to the idea of a “philosophy of computer simulations” whereas the latter to a “philosophy of science (focused on computer simulations)”. In this presentation I tackle these issues by discussing three main points. Firstly, I ask what should be expected from a philosophy of computer simulations? Secondly, I show what it has been done so far. Thirdly, I discuss what needs to be done, and what direction I believe a philosophy of computer simulations must take.
