CoolEmAll project kicks off
This October, HLRS started a new collaborative research project for a new generation of energy efficient IT Service Centres. The CoolEmAll project (Platform for Optimising the Design and Operation of Modular Configurable IT Infrastructures and Facilities with Resource-Efficient Cooling) will deliver an innovative framework of methodologies and an enhanced simulation environment taking into account the real payloads caused by specific applications on the corresponding systems, allowing to design, evaluate and optimise the next generation of energy-aware IT Service Centres. Main expected outcome will be the SVD (Simulation, Visualisation and Decision Support) Toolkit, allowing to determine the best suitable configuration and setup of an IT Service centre in a given context, and thus allowing to increase the energy efficiency of IT Service Centres and reduce their global carbon footprint significantly.
The project consortium is formed by Instytut Chemii Bioorganicznej Pan (PSCN), High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS), Universite Paul Sabatier Toulouse III, Christmann Informationstechnik + Medien GmbH & Co KG, The 451 Group Limited, Fundacio Institut de Recerca de L'Energia de Catalunya and ATOS Origin Sciedad Anonima Espanola.
The project is sponsored by the European Commission under ICT-2011.6.2: ICT systems for energy efficiency.
