Numerical Simulation of Blood Flow on Supercomputers

The numerical simulations on human bones and bone-implant-systems currently focus on abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA).

The video shows the development of an AAA model from a clinical computer tomography (CT). The CT is provided by the Robert Bosch Krankenhaus Stuttgart and was taken of a patient with an already treated AAA after the injection of contrast fluid. The AAA was modeled from the still recognizable thrombus.

First a volume rendering of the CT data is shown which is blended to a iso-surface segmentation of the bones and the abdominal arteries. Afterwards the AAA model along with the transient result of the flow simulation is visualized.
