HLRS Mourns Loss of Former Steering Committee Member Hanns Ruder

21 October 2015

On October 19, 2015 HLRS received the sad news that Hanns Ruder – one of the founding members of the HLRS Steering Committee – has passed away. Hanns had been a member of the steering committee since HLRS was founded in 1996 until his retirement as Professor for Theoretical Astrophysics at the Universität Tübingen in 2005.

An outstanding and highly esteemed astrophysicist, Hanns was also a distinguished simulation expert. His profound advice and guidance helped to set up HLRS and get it through difficult times. Scientists from HLRS worked with Hanns in the collaborative research project (SFB) 382 for many years sharing ideas on parallelization and visualization. HLRS has lost a much-valued supporter and a true friend.
