The Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Science, Research and Art, under the auspices of the project "Sustainability in HPC Centers I and II", sponsored the formulation of HLRS's sustainability concept and the development of its environmental and energy management systems, as well as the creation of a practical guideline for sustainable computing centers.

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector supported HLRS regularly with funding to support the implementation of measures for improving energy efficiency. Of particular importance was their funding of preparations for certification under the Blue Angel for Energy-Efficient Data Center Operation.

The Ministry of the Environment has engaged with HLRS for many years together with the Baden-Württemberg Academy for Nature Preservation and Environmental Protection. The cooperation has taken on many dimensions, from providing sustainability training for HLRS employees, to lectures, to collaborative research projects.

The Institute for Building Energetics, Thermotechnology and Energy Storage (IGTE) of the University of Stuttgart is supporting HLRS in a long-term collaboration focusing on the modeling of HLRS's complex cooling systems and on the development and implementation of concrete measures for improving energy efficiency.
