The foundation of HLRS in 1996 as the first German federal High Performance Computing Center marked a milestone in the over 50 years of HPC at the University of Stuttgart. Right from the start HLRS has provided its services not only to researchers but also to industrial partners like Daimler and Porsche. Since 2008 services and support has also been provided through the Automotive Simulation Center Stuttgart (asc(s).
Since 2007 HLRS has been a member of the German Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) working with its partners to better serve researchers in Germany and Europe. HLRS has also established itself as a center of competence in computational science and engineering to support its users. HLRS supports German and pan-European researchers as well as industrial users with leading edge supercomputing technology, HPC trainings, and support.
