bwHPC-S5 - Scientific Simulation and Storage Support Services

The implementation concept “bwHPC” for High Performance Computing (HPC) in Baden-Württemberg has been developed to support scientific computing in research and studies. It provides a state-wide HPC infrastructure, federated user support in seven competence centers and a training programme.

The current implementation concept for HPC, Data Intensive Computing (DIC) and Large Scale Scientific Data Management (LS²DM) in Baden-Württemberg is a union of bwHPC and bwDATA. The main task of the accompanying state-wide project bwHPC-S5 is to embed current and future data storage systems into the federated HPC infrastructure to unify computing and data services from the user's point of view.

bwHPC-S5 has been funded by the ministry of science, research and arts of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. The Universities of Freiburg, Heidelberg, Hohenheim, Konstanz, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Tübingen and Ulm, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, as well as the Universities of Applied Sciences in Esslingen and Stuttgart participate in the realization of the project.

Project phase 1 is running for 30 months (Jul 01, 2018 until Dec 31, 2020).
