ENRICH - Energie, Nachhaltigkeit, Ressourceneffizienz in IT und Rechenzentren

In order to assess the effects of increasing digitization on energy and resource consumption in Baden-Württemberg as holistically as possible, ENRICH is examining the latest developments in the field of information technology (IT) and high-performance computing (HPC) centers in terms of resource efficiency and their sustainability potential. The innovation-driven speed of hardware and application development of computing systems has been increasing intensively for decades. The simultaneously increasing complexity of technologies raises the demand to understand possible measures for the sustainable improvement of environmental performance.

To this end, ENRICH will examine the latest megatrends in IT technologies, sustainable supply chains, and the development of various proven and novel energy efficiency measures, including waste heat recovery. Importantly, ENRICH will also integrate user perspectives to ensure that the proposed solutions are intuitive and benefit users despite their increased complexity. HLRS will be involved in the analysis of supply chains for IT hardware, the employment of AI for higher energy and resource efficiency, and the operation of digital infrastructures, including efficient programming, efficient supercomputer operation, and the usage of intelligent networks.
