iWindow - Intelligentes Maschinenfenster

Today's machine-tools are using observation windows to enable operators to observe and control ongoing processes. Despite very large window sizes, observation of the tool or workpiece is difficult or impossible during operation due to sprayed cooling lubricant or swarf and dust, for instance. Furthermore, these large windows become very expensive to comply with protection regulations, for example in laser cutting machines. Goal of iWindow is to enhance the real machine window with computer generated images and additional information. In particular a simulation and a 3D real-time reconstruction of the machining area will enable augmentation of the view into the machine with an overlay of the virtual model as well as provide additional information like remaining processing time or current running NC-Program. The Virtual model will enable new functionality like visualisation of tool paths and prediction of possible collisions, acting forces and workpiece quality before starting the actual NC-program. User interaction will be possible directly at the machine window using state-of-the-art user interfaces to facilitate control and to ensure safe operation of these machines.
