Join Us for Girls' Day at HLRS

On Thursday April 27, 2017, the HLRS High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart will participate in Girls' Day, a nationwide event across Germany that gives girls the chance to learn about careers in science and technology.

The HLRS program, titled "From Bits to Virtual Worlds: Ultrafast Computers in Science and Industry", will focus on how supercomputers like the ones operated at HLRS are transforming automobile and aircraft design, city planning, power generation, and many other fields.

Following a short introduction, participants will receive a tour of Hazel Hen, the European Union's fastest supercomputer, and visit the CAVE, a high-tech immersive visualization system for scientific data. Other activities will include a hands-on programming workshop, an exercise in optimizing air flow around an airplane wing, and a chance to enter the virtual world of a driving simulator. By the end of the day, attendees will have gained an understanding of some of the key concepts behind high performance computing as well as an awareness of some of the many ways in which scientists and engineers use these powerful tools.

Girls' Day at the HLRS is open to girls who are currently in the 9th and 10th grades.

The program is free. However, registration is required and limited to 16 participants. Click here for more information and to register.
