The center becomes part of the country’s largest networking and advocacy organization for the artificial intelligence community.

The High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) has become a member of the German AI Association, the country’s largest network for companies working in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence. The German AI Association offers a platform for information sharing, network building, and raising the visibility of German innovation using artificial intelligence. It focuses on helping AI-focused businesses to address key challenges they face, and serves as a voice for the AI community on the national political level.

As one of Germany’s three national high-performance computing centers, HLRS provides state-of-the-art infrastructure and expertise to support the use of artificial intelligence in science, industry, and the public sector. HLRS is also coordinator of HammerHAI, established by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) in the spring of 2025 as Germany's first “AI Factory.” HammerHAI is addressing an urgent demand for sovereign AI resources and solutions in Germany, offering personalized, end-to-end support at all stages of the AI life cycle, from concept to implementation. HammerHAI will accelerate the adoption of AI in German research, start-ups, and SMEs, particularly in the fields of manufacturing, automotive, and mobility. In 2026 HLRS will also become home to a new, large-scale, AI-optimized EuroHPC JU supercomputer.

“We are delighted to join the German AI Association,” said Dr. Bastian Koller, Managing Director of HLRS. “This is a perfect forum for us to contribute our many years of experience in providing computing resources and support services for industry (including research and manufacturing) and science. At the same time, we look forward to interactions within the German AI Association that will enable us to expand our knowledge and our portfolio continually, both as HLRS and as AI Factory.”

The German AI Association is organized into regional chapters, and operates working groups focusing on key topics of interest to its member community. These include data economy, data privacy, ethics, industry 4.0, mobility, and health, among many other topics.

HammerHAI is a collaboration involving HLRS and partners at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenberarbeitung Göttingen, and SICOS BW.
