The Stuttgart Way: Interconnected Disciplines for Education and Reconstruction in Ukraine

The project aims to systematically build shared teaching, research, and mobility structures that are directly aligned with the challenges of reconstruction and post-war transformation in Ukraine.

StuttWay4Ukraine is a cooperation project between the University of Stuttgart and Ukrainian partner universities, funded by DAAD and BMBF.

The project aims to systematically build shared teaching, research, and mobility structures that are directly aligned with the challenges of reconstruction and post-war transformation in Ukraine. Over the funding period from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2029, five teaching modules will be developed and sustainably integrated into the bachelor's and master's programs of the partner universities.

The project builds on the results of the DAAD project Ukraine Digital: Securing Academic Success in Times of Crisis.

Project goals

Development and curricular integration of five joint bachelor's and master's teaching modules
Establishment of hybrid and digital teaching and research infrastructures
Promotion of academic mobility despite war-related restrictions
Training of specialists for critical reconstruction sectors
Sustainable institutional networking beyond the project’s duration

Project timeline

Step 1: Pilot Phase – Development of Hybrid Teaching Formats (WS 2025 – SS 2026)

Development and implementation of joint/hybrid courses
Opening of courses to students from partner universities
Success criteria: courses listed in the catalogs of all partner universities

Step 2: Evaluation and Adaptation (WS 2026 – SS 2028)

Evaluate the pilot phase, adapt content and formats
Blended learning mobility (e.g., summer schools, internships)
2026: Summer schools in Germany; 2027/2028: Summer schools in Ukraine
Success criteria: documented analyses of participation and improvements; increased participation

Step 3: Sustainable Integration (WS 2028 – SS 2029)

Re-embedding of hybrid modules into curricula
Development and accreditation of joint bachelor's and master's degree programs
Success criteria: official recognition and long-term inclusion in study programs beyond the project's end
