Iterative Linear Solvers and Parallelisation

LRZ Building, courtesy LRZ
This on-site course has been canceled.

Due to low demand, we unfortunately have to cancel this on-site course. Please consider attending the on-site Parallel Programming Workshop (MPI, OpenMP and Advanced Topics) at HLRS on 10 – 14 October 2022  in Stuttgart covering part of the topics. LRZ is planning to offer the "Iterative Solvers for Linear Systems" part of the course by Prof. Dr. Andreas Meister as an on-line course later this year.

The focus of this on-site compact course at LRZ in Garching near Munich is on iterative and parallel solvers, the parallel programming models MPI and OpenMP, and the parallel middleware PETSc.

Thereby, different modern Krylov Subspace Methods (CG, GMRES, BiCGSTAB ...) as well as highly efficient preconditioning techniques are presented in the context of real life applications.

Hands-on sessions (in C, Fortran and Python) will allow users to immediately test and understand

  • the basic constructs of iterative solvers,
  • the Message Passing Interface (MPI) and
  • the shared memory directives of OpenMP (in C and Fortran).

This course provides scientific training in Computational Science, and in addition, the scientific exchange of the participants among themselves. It is organised by LRZ in cooperation with the University of Kassel, the high performance computing centre of Stuttgart (HLRS) and IAG.

Each participant will get a pdf version of the slides.
